There is an overwhelming amount of lodging choices in Bali. My friends and I did many hours of research and had the pleasure of being the first guests at Puri Gangga Resort.
Only twenty minutes away from Ubud city center, the location is ideal for travelers looking to get away and be surrounded by the local Balinese culture with resort amenities. Puri Gangga overlooks the Gunung Kawi Temple, where devotees make the pilgrimage for spiritual purification. A short trek away is lovely rice fields, easily accessible for an enjoyable walk, run, or bike ride.
Though it was the soft opening, the experienced team provided hospitality like a well established resort. From the moment we checked-in and until we checked out, we were always greeted with warm smiles and they were attentive to our needs.
The property has 20 rooms providing an intimate environment. We stayed in the suite rooms with a view of the infinity pool and luscious green landscape. If you want to splurge for more luxurious accommodations, try the standalone Garden Villa with an impressive open air bathroom.
The highlights of our stay were the food and activities. I had the best Indonesian food during our stay. The flavors were fresh and authentic with each dish meticulously prepared. We were eager to come back to Puri Gangga for dinner service. Their inclusive breakfast was a feast. Don’t mistakenly think one of the accompanying dipping sauces with the bread as dark ketchup. It is actually delicious housemade strawberry jam!
Many activities have been designed to truly get in touch with the Balinese culture and nature. We went on an early morning rice field trek and became acquainted with the nearby neighborhood. I experienced my first outdoor yoga session right before sunset. Sun salutations were a breeze with fresh air and beautiful scenery!
Free shuttle buses are available if you want to explore the Ubud city center. If you have time, check out the numerous handicraft stores along the main road to Ubud center from Puri Gangga.
